When this restock window works, plus when to skip
This restock window works for boutiques with a mixed customer base of working women, festive-wear buyers, and South Indian community regulars. Cotton mulmul moves for Independence Day corporate wear and Sawan Somwar green suits. Kasavu moves for Onam. Cotton silk overlaps both.
It works if your boutique is in Delhi NCR, South Delhi, Noida, Gurgaon, or you have a strong Kerala Samajam or Malayali customer segment anywhere in India.
Skip a heavy Onam kasavu stock if your boutique is Punjabi, Rajasthani, or Gujarati community-heavy. Onam demand is regional. Stick to cotton mulmul and cotton silk in tricolour-friendly cream, white, off-white shades for those markets.
Skip georgette-heavy restock for this window because wedding-party georgette demand kicks in from September onwards, not now. Booking 30 metres of georgette in August will sit on shelf till mid-October.

Colour split: 15 metres cream and off-white (Independence Day), 15 metres green shades mehendi and pista (Sawan Somwar), 10 metres beige and light peach (all-purpose August wear).
Wholesale rate at 20+ metre bundles: Rs 220 to Rs 320 per metre. Sells to customer at Rs 380 to Rs 560 per metre. Boutique margin 40 to 45 percent.
2. Cotton silk (30 metres, Rs 11,400 to Rs 15,600)
Mid-tier volume. Works for Independence Day evening functions, post-Rakhi return gifts, Onam blouse fabric, and light September wedding season prep. Colour split: 10 metres kasavu cream (Onam blouses), 10 metres rose pink and peach (return gifts), 10 metres cream ivory (multi-purpose).

3. Kasavu cream cotton silk with zari border (20 metres, Rs 6,400 to Rs 9,600)

4. Chanderi (10 metres, Rs 4,200 to Rs 6,200)
Small buffer stock. Works for Independence Day corporate silk kurta wear plus post-Rakhi wedding-season fabric gifts. Colour: 5 metres ivory or cream, 5 metres pale beige or dusty rose.
Wholesale Rs 420 to Rs 620 per metre. Retail Rs 720 to Rs 950. Margin 40 percent. Chanderi does not move in high volume but keeps your boutique dressier-priced customer.
5. Tricolour-border cotton dupatta stock (15 pieces, Rs 4,800 to Rs 7,500)
Not fabric metre. Ready dupattas. Cream cotton mulmul with thin saffron-green border, 2.25 metre length, ready for boutique display. Book 15 pieces for corporate customer walk-ins Aug 12 to Aug 15.
Wholesale Rs 320 to Rs 500 per piece at 10+ bundle. Retail Rs 620 to Rs 950. Margin 45 to 50 percent. Fast-moving inventory in the 3 days before Independence Day.
4 mistakes that ruin an Aug boutique restock
Mistake 1: Booking too much georgette by habit. Georgette demand starts September for wedding season. Booking 20+ metres now leaves it sitting on shelf. Delay georgette booking to Aug 25 for September delivery.
Mistake 2: Understocking kasavu. Delhi Kerala buyer segment is small but concentrated in the last 10 days before Onam. Boutiques that stock only 5 metres of kasavu run out by Aug 22 and turn away 4 to 6 walk-in customers. Book at least 20 metres.
Mistake 3: Buying random tricolour without checking flag-order. Some wholesale batches print saffron and green on the same side of the dupatta (wrong flag order). Ask supplier to send one sample piece before booking 10+ pieces. Reject batches where both stripes are on same edge.

What is the safest tricolour dupatta batch size?
Start with 10 to 15 pieces. If you sell out by Wednesday 12 Aug, do a top-up of 10 more for arrival Aug 14 (Thursday). Do not book 30 pieces upfront unless your boutique already has repeat corporate clients who pre-order.
Should I stock full ready kurtas or only fabric?
For this window, mostly fabric. Independence Day corporate customers want fabric they can rush-tailor. Onam Kerala customers want blouse fabric only (they already own saree). Ready kurtas move slower than fabric this month. Save ready-kurta stock for October Diwali window.
What margin should I keep on kasavu vs regular cotton?
Kasavu margin is lower (35 percent) but turnover is fast. Regular cotton margin is 40 to 45 percent with slower turnover. Blend both for balanced cashflow. Aim for 40 percent overall boutique margin for August.
