Diwali Muhurat Trading: The Marwari Stockbroker Wife's Fabric Register

Diwali Muhurat Trading: The Marwari Stockbroker Wife's Fabric Register

Quick Answer (Diwali Muhurat Trading Saree, In 90 Seconds)

Diwali 2026 falls on Sunday, 8 November. Muhurat trading opens on the same evening between roughly 6 PM and 7:15 PM on the BSE and NSE. If your husband is a stockbroker, sub-broker, or trades his own book, the after-market chopda-pujan and Lakshmi puja on the trading floor or in a broker's Karol Bagh office needs a specific saree register from you. The honest picks are red silk-jacquard with a gold border, red Banarasi-inspired brocade, or red imperial-brocade in a 6.3-metre cut. Colour must be true red or red-and-gold, never black, never white. The saree is worn from Sunday evening 5 PM through the chopda pujan, the sthapana, and the family Lakshmi puja that follows at home by 10 PM.

Who This Guide Is For

Wives of Delhi stockbrokers, sub-brokers, and self-traders (Karol Bagh, Chandni Chowk, Model Town, Punjabi Bagh Marwari community). Attending office chopda-pujan plus home Lakshmi puja on Diwali evening.

From The Counter Desk

At our Paras Gallery Fabrics counter in Central Market, Lajpat Nagar, every October, three or four Marwari stockbroker wives walk in with the same brief. "Bhabhi, muhurat trading ke baad chopda pujan hai office mein, phir ghar pe Lakshmi pooja. Saree kaunsi jo dono jagah chalti hai?"

Here is the register we hand them.

Why The Muhurat Trading Saree Is Different

The Lakshmi puja saree at home is one thing. The Muhurat trading saree is a different fabric brief because you are worn from 5 PM to 10 PM across three ceremonies:

  • 5 PM to 6 PM: Set-up at the trading office, chopda pujan (new account books blessed), sthapana of the Lakshmi silver coin
  • 6 PM to 7:15 PM: Muhurat trading window opens; you sit beside your husband on the trading floor while he places the first trade of the Hindu year 2083
  • 7:30 PM to 10 PM: Family Lakshmi puja at home in Karol Bagh, Chandni Chowk, Model Town, or wherever your ghar is

The saree has to sit for the chopda pujan (floor-sitting, so no heavy weight), stand for the trading window (formal, photograph-ready), and walk home for the family puja (comfortable). Red is the anchor colour for all three. Gold work has to be visible but not overpowering.

The Four Fabrics That Work For Muhurat Trading

1. Red silk-jacquard with gold border (Rs.2,400 to Rs.3,600 per 6.3 m cut)

The honest first pick. Silk-jacquard is a jacquard weave in a silk-blend base. Reads Marwari-formal. Photographs red-and-gold under office fluorescent light and home diya light equally well. Weight sits at 500-600 g per saree, comfortable for a 5-hour wear.

2. Red imperial-brocade with gold woven motifs (Rs.2,800 to Rs.4,200)

For the stockbroker wife whose husband runs his own firm and hosts twenty guests at the office puja. Imperial-brocade weighs slightly heavier but reads richly formal. Best for the woman who is 35+ and comfortable in weight.

3. Red Banarasi-style jacquard (Rs.3,200 to Rs.4,800)

The traditional Marwari trader's wife saree. Woven gold zari motifs on a red silk-blend base. Reads absolutely formal for the Karol Bagh office register. Slightly warmer than silk-jacquard so keep the pallu lighter.

4. Red silk-1 base with contrast gold pallu (Rs.2,000 to Rs.3,000)

For the younger stockbroker wife (25-32) who wants a lighter register. Silk-1 base holds a crisp drape without weight. The contrast gold pallu photographs against the office pooja lamp.

The Colour Register For Muhurat Trading

Red anchors. Gold supports.

  • Solid red (the honest muhurat colour)
  • Red with woven gold zari (the Marwari trader default)
  • Maroon with gold border (for older brokers' wives)
  • Red with gold pallu contrast (for younger wives)
  • Rani pink with gold border (borderline; only if your sasu-maa says yes)

Never for Muhurat trading: black (never for Lakshmi puja), white (reserved for prayer of the departed), navy blue (unlucky for the trading opening), and grey (reads inauspicious).

Cut List For The Muhurat Trading Saree

Sarees at Paras Gallery are sold as running-length fabric. Cut list is:

  • Saree body: 6.3 metres of the base fabric (silk-jacquard, imperial-brocade, Banarasi-style, or silk-1)
  • Blouse piece: 1 metre of matching or contrast gold fabric (buy separately)
  • Petticoat cloth: 2 metres of cambric cotton in red or maroon
  • Fall attachment: buy the matching fall separately, stitched at Lajpat Nagar tailor

Skip the dupatta cut. A Muhurat trading saree does not need a chunari, but if you want one for covering the head at the sthapana, we can add a 2.5 m red-and-gold chunari at Rs.450 to Rs.800.

What A Karol Bagh Stockbroker Wife Ordered Last Year

A 38-year-old wife of a Karol Bagh sub-broker walked in three weeks before Diwali last year. Below is the order.

  • Saree body: red imperial-brocade with gold woven motifs, 6.3 m, Rs.3,400
  • Blouse piece: gold silk-jacquard contrast, 1 m, Rs.650
  • Petticoat: cambric cotton red, 2 m, Rs.280
  • Fall: 60 cm matching gold, Rs.150
  • Stitching: 24-hour blouse at Lajpat Nagar tailor, Rs.420
  • Chunari: red-and-gold, 2.5 m, Rs.650

Total around Rs.5,550 including tailoring. She wore the same saree from the office chopda pujan at 5 PM to the home Lakshmi puja at 9 PM. Her husband placed the first Muhurat trade at 6:15 PM on BSE. She stood behind him for the family photograph on the trading floor.

The Jewellery Rule (Because I Get Asked)

Fabric is our line, not jewellery, but the Marwari trader's wife register has a set jewellery pairing that clients ask about at the counter:

  • Kundan set with red-and-gold saree, always. Never a diamond set for muhurat.
  • Gold bangles in even numbers (typically 8 or 12), never odd.
  • Small red bindi, not the large filmi bindi. Muhurat is a business puja.
  • Mangalsutra visible at the front over the pallu, not tucked in.

If you want the mangalsutra visible, tell your tailor to keep the blouse neckline slightly deeper (up to 4 inches below collarbone), not the standard 2-inch high neck.

Where To Sit For The Fitting

Central Market, Lajpat Nagar. Counter opens 11 AM. Marwari wives usually come with the sasu-maa or the nanad, so we keep two chairs and a sample tray for family consultation. Saturday between 12 PM and 3 PM is our busiest slot in October.

If you cannot come in, WhatsApp +91 96544 40244 with a photograph of the saree you wore last year and what you want to change this year. We ship anywhere in Delhi (Karol Bagh, Chandni Chowk, Model Town, Gurgaon, Noida) same-day for orders placed before 2 PM.

For Diwali on 8 November Sunday, order the fabric by Tuesday 3 November before 2 PM so the blouse and fall are stitched by Thursday, with a Friday-evening trial drape option before the Sunday chopda pujan.

The 24-Hour Care Routine Before Muhurat

  • Hang the saree overnight in a cotton bag, not plastic
  • Iron on low heat, one steam pass only for silk-jacquard, two passes for imperial-brocade
  • Attach a small safety-pin at the pallu edge for the trading-floor photograph
  • Keep a spare gold bindi and a small kumkum pouch in the pallu fold
  • Do not spray perfume on the saree; the diya-oil sticks to alcohol residue
  • Fold the pallu in half over the shoulder for the chopda pujan bending

FAQs

Q1. What is the best saree fabric for Diwali Muhurat trading?
Red silk-jacquard with a gold border is the honest first pick. Weighs 500-600 g, holds a crisp drape from 5 PM to 10 PM, photographs red-and-gold in both office fluorescent and home diya light.

Q2. What time is Muhurat trading on Diwali 2026?
The Muhurat trading window on BSE and NSE opens on Diwali evening. On Sunday 8 November 2026, the exact one-hour window is announced by BSE and NSE a week before. Historically it runs between 6 PM and 7:15 PM. Confirm with your husband's brokerage two days before.

Q3. Can I wear a black or navy blue saree for Muhurat trading?
No. Black and navy blue are inauspicious for Lakshmi puja and for the trading opening. Red is the anchor. Maroon, rani pink, and red-and-gold are acceptable.

Q4. How much fabric do I need for a Diwali Muhurat saree?
A 6.3-metre running-length cut for the saree body, plus 1 metre for the blouse, plus 2 metres of cambric cotton for the petticoat. Fall is 60 cm to 1 metre of matching cloth.

Q5. When should I order the fabric to have the saree ready for 8 November?
Order by Tuesday 3 November before 2 PM. That gives same-day delivery in Delhi, Wednesday for blouse tailoring, Thursday for fall attachment, Friday evening for the trial drape, and Sunday for the puja.

Q6. Do you stitch the blouse and attach the fall at Paras Gallery?
We supply the fabric, the matching fall cloth, and the blouse piece. Stitching is by Lajpat Nagar tailors we can walk you to. Blouse takes 24 hours, fall attachment takes 3 hours.
