Why this question actually matters

Do baatein I have seen at this counter but people rarely mention:

1. Sarees pehenti hai kya, at least four times a year?

Yes-Saree if her Diwali outfit is a saree. Karwa Chauth saree. Wedding function saree. Family birthday saree.

Yes-Suit if the only saree photo you can find is from your cousin's 2022 engagement. Aur wahan bhi ma ne pehna diya tha.

2. Is this a landmark Rakhi?

Landmark Rakhi means saree. Regular yearly Rakhi means suit. Simple.

What counts as landmark:

• First married Rakhi
• First Rakhi after her baby was born
• Milestone birthday Rakhi (30, 40, 50)
• First Rakhi after she has moved to a new city

Woh Rakhi jab kuch shift hua hai. That is landmark.

3. Humid summer city, ya cold-climate city?

Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata. Humid-summer Rakhi handles a drape saree well. Sweat, humidity, chai spill, everything.

Bengaluru, Pune, Manchester (yes I have shipped to Manchester in 2023), San Francisco. Cold-climate Rakhi does not really work with a saree.

Kyun? Because a saree needs a blouse tailored plus fall-and-pico. Yeh sab do hafte ka kaam hai. And then the sister is not going to wear a saree in December Bengaluru weather anyway. Cotton silk suit piece works better. Rain or shine.

4. Twenties ki hai kya?

College students, first-year working women, single women in their early twenties, mostly reach for a suit piece first.

Saree count in the cupboard climbs after thirty.

Gift matched to age bracket lands better. Do not send a heavy Banarasi to a twenty-two year old MBA student. Trust me.

5. New mother hai ya expecting?

Nursing sister? Soft cotton silk. Ya mulmul suit piece she can nurse comfortably in.

Baby ke pehle do saal saree impractical hai. Simple.

6. Blouse measurements pata hai?

If yes, saree is a possibility. If no, saree becomes a chore.

She uses the dupatta immediately. Aur apni saree ya suit October wedding season mein khud khareed leti hai. Do winners, no guessing.

Delhi mother-approved. Not marketed enough, honestly.

Five mistakes I have watched brothers make

Rs 4,000 spent on a gift that never leaves the box. Yeh paanch wajaha hoti hain.

Heavy Anarkali festive suit for a nursing new mother. Ekdum khoobsurat. Ekdum unwearable for two years. Suit almirah mein chala gaya. Out of fashion by the time baby walks. Emotional value: zero. Sad but true.
