Vishwakarma Puja 2026: What Factory-Owner Wives Are Booking For This Thursday

Quick Answer (Vishwakarma Puja Saree Fabric, In 90 Seconds)

Vishwakarma Puja falls on Thursday, 17 September 2026. If your husband owns a factory, workshop, garage, printing press, or any manufacturing unit, the workshop mahurat happens on this day. A red bandhani or bagru-print cotton saree in a 6.3-metre cut is the honest choice. Cotton breathes through a 4-hour morning ceremony that involves diyas, machine aarti, and hot chai for the workers. Red is the mahurat colour. Bandhani ties tradition to the tools. Skip synthetic prints that trap heat. Skip heavy silk that pulls at the pallu when you bend to touch the tools. You need clean, dignified, workshop-friendly cotton with a red-and-white register.

I am Sneha, and I sit at the Paras Gallery Fabrics counter in Central Market, Lajpat Nagar. This Thursday is Vishwakarma Puja. Two factory-owner wives walked in yesterday for the same fabric question. "Bhabhi bola factory mein pooja hai, kaunsa saree lenge?"

Here is the register I gave them.

When Is Vishwakarma Puja In 2026, And Why This Saree Is Different

Vishwakarma Puja this year is 17 September, Thursday. In North India it is a workshop ritual, not a home puja. The husband opens the factory floor at 9 AM. The pandit does the machine aarti. Workers touch the tools. Prasad is distributed. The whole ceremony wraps by 1 PM.

Your saree needs to walk on a factory floor. Sit for the katha on a metal chair. Bend down to touch a lathe or a printing frame. Serve chai to twenty workers without a stain. All in cotton, because the machines run hot and the factory does not have AC.

This is not a Karva Chauth register. This is not a Diwali register. This is a workshop-floor register.

The Four Fabrics That Work For Vishwakarma Puja

Here is what I recommend at the counter, based on what factory-owner wives return happy about.

1. Red bandhani cotton (Jaipur bandhej register)
This is the honest first pick. Bandhani cotton is 100 percent cotton with tied-and-dyed red spots on a natural or off-white base. Breathes on a hot September morning. Sits soft against the skin. Falls right without needing starch. Photographs red-and-white against the machine-oil grey of a workshop.

2. Bagru print cotton (soft red with black-and-mustard motifs)
Traditional Rajasthan hand-block print. Semi-heavy cotton, matte finish. If your factory has visitors like the local MLA or the union leader, bagru prints carry more dignity than plain cotton. Motifs read as respectful to the machines.

3. Chanderi with red zari border (semi-formal register)
For the wife of a bigger factory owner where the puja becomes a mini-event. Chanderi weighs light. The red zari border reads mahurat-appropriate. Wears well from the factory to the family lunch that follows at home.

4. Dyeable cotton (buy off-white base and get it red-dyed at Krishna Nagar)
For families where every year needs a fresh red saree for the puja. Buy a running-length off-white cotton, dye it once at Krishna Nagar for ₹300 to ₹500, and you have a fresh puja saree every year without paying red-cloth premium.

Colours That Match The Vishwakarma Puja Register

The colour register is narrower than Karva Chauth. Red is the anchor. Everything else supports it.

  • Solid red (the honest mahurat colour)
  • Red-and-white bandhani (the working-woman anchor)
  • Maroon with gold border (for older factory owners)
  • Red bagru on natural cream (for craft-forward workshops)
  • Deep saffron (for pressmen and printers, ink-side)

Colours factory-owner wives ask me to avoid: black (never for mahurat), navy blue (reads as office, not workshop), pastels (do not photograph against factory grey), and pure white (reserved for prayer of the departed, not for tool-blessing).

Fabric Cut List (What To Ask For At The Counter)

Sarees at Paras Gallery are always sold as running-length fabric, not stitched pieces. So the cut looks like this.

  • Saree body: 6.3 metres of the base fabric (bandhani cotton / bagru / chanderi)
  • Blouse piece: 1 metre of matching or contrast (buy separately, we do not bundle it)
  • Petticoat cloth: cambric cotton, 2 metres, in red or maroon
  • Fall attachment: buy the matching fall separately, we can get it stitched by tomorrow

Skip the dupatta cut for this puja. A factory-floor saree does not need a dupatta. You want your hands free for the aarti thali and the tools.

What Factory-Owner Wives Actually Ask For

Six wives walked in this week for the same brief. I am collapsing their asks into one clean list.

  • "Cotton chahiye, factory garam hai, AC nahi hai"
  • "Red hi lena hai, mahurat ka colour hai"
  • "Bandhani mein simple lagana hai, workers dekhenge"
  • "Border zari nahi, plain rakho, tools ke saamne heavy dikhta hai"
  • "Blouse piece contrast lungi, maroon"
  • "Delivery buddhwar (Wednesday) tak chahiye, pooja Thursday hai"

If your ask is the same, you are already on the right register.

Where To Sit For The Fitting

Central Market, Lajpat Nagar. Our counter opens 11 AM. Bring one photograph of your factory or workshop for context. The saree register changes based on whether your husband runs a garment unit, a printing press, a small metalwork shop, or a garage. The visual anchor helps us pick the right red.

If you cannot come in, WhatsApp +91 96544 40244 and we ship anywhere in Delhi NCR same-day (before 2 PM order). For Thursday's puja, order by Wednesday 2 PM for guaranteed same-city delivery.

Budget Bands (Vishwakarma Puja Saree Fabric)

Fabric cost only, per 6.3-metre cut. Blouse priced separately.

Register Fabric Type Fabric Cost (6.3 m) Add For Blouse
Working-day puja Red bandhani cotton ~₹1,600 to ₹2,400 ~₹450
Family-visitor puja Bagru print cotton ~₹2,000 to ₹3,000 ~₹500
Bigger-factory register Chanderi with red zari ~₹2,400 to ₹3,600 ~₹600
Custom-red every year Dyeable off-white cotton ~₹1,400 to ₹2,000 (before dye) ~₹450

Stitching (fall + blouse) is separate and takes 24 hours at Lajpat Nagar tailors if you drop the fabric by Wednesday morning. Book by Tuesday to have it ready by Thursday morning.

Care In The 24 Hours Before The Puja

  • Hang the saree overnight in a cotton bag, not plastic
  • Iron on low heat, one steam pass only
  • Keep a small cotton kerchief in the pallu for chai wiping
  • Do not spray perfume on the saree; factory grease sticks to alcohol residue
  • Fold the pallu in half over the shoulder for the machine aarti (bending is easier)
  • Keep a spare red dupatta in the bag if you want to cover the head for the pandit's mantras

What About The Husband's Kurta?

Since I get asked. The factory-owner husband wears white or cream cotton kurta-pyjama with a red angavastram (shoulder cloth) on the shoulder. Simple. If your husband asks, cotton kurta fabric at 2.5 metres for the kurta plus 2 metres for the pyjama plus 1 metre for the angavastram covers him.

Skills Used In This Guide

I referenced Paras Gallery's full cotton fabric range, the printed cotton collection, the chanderi fabric shelf, and the hand-print collection. If you want to talk fabric before booking a piece for Thursday's puja, book an appointment here or use our fabric estimator to see how much cloth you actually need. Boutique buyers and factory canteens ordering worker gift-cloth can register on the wholesale page.

FAQs

Q1. What is the best saree fabric for Vishwakarma Puja at a factory?
A red bandhani cotton or bagru print cotton in a 6.3-metre running cut. Cotton breathes through a 4-hour workshop ceremony, does not stain from chai or grease, and photographs red against the machine-grey factory floor.

Q2. Can I wear a silk saree for Vishwakarma Puja?
Chanderi silk with red zari border works for bigger factories where visitors attend. Skip heavy Kanjeevaram or pure Banarasi. Silk fabric pulls at the pallu when you bend to touch the tools, and factory grease is impossible to clean off silk.

Q3. Is red the only colour allowed for Vishwakarma Puja?
Red is the mahurat anchor. Maroon, saffron, and red-and-white bandhani all work. Avoid black, navy blue, pastels, and pure white. Yellow and orange are acceptable if your workshop is a printer or an ink press.

Q4. Do you stitch the fall and blouse at Paras Gallery?
We supply the fabric, the matching fall cloth, and the matching blouse piece. Stitching is by Lajpat Nagar tailors we can walk you to. For a Thursday puja, drop the fabric by Tuesday afternoon to have both ready by Wednesday evening.

Q5. Can I gift red saree fabric to my factory's female workers for Vishwakarma Puja?
Yes, this is a common tradition at bigger factories. Buy in bulk from our wholesale counter, 6-metre cotton bandhani cuts start at ₹450 per piece for wholesale minimum-order-quantity of 20 pieces.

Q6. When should I order the fabric to have the saree ready for 17 September?
Order the running length by Tuesday 15 September, 2 PM. That gives same-day delivery inside Delhi, 24-hour tailoring at Lajpat Nagar, and a Wednesday-evening trial drape before Thursday morning's puja.
