Cotton Silk Fabric in 2026: What Sells, What Drapes, What Lasts Through a Delhi Summer
Cotton silk fabric is a blended cloth woven with cotton yarn in the warp and silk yarn in the weft. In 2026 it ranges from Rs 240 per metre for blended chanderi style to Rs 1,100 per metre for pure tussar cotton silk used in summer sarees and festive kurtis.
Twelve summers now at this Lajpat Nagar counter. Same scene every year. Delhi heat past forty-three in late May. Phones start ringing. Boutique-walas from Pune, Lucknow, sometimes Bhopal. Same question, different accent. Bhaiya, summer ke liye kya chal raha hai? They want cloth that photographs like silk in WhatsApp listings but does not punish whoever wears it through a June function. Answer has not changed in a decade. Cotton silk.
Last week a Greater Kailash bhabhi walked in convinced the cotton silk kurta she ordered online for Rs 1,800 was pure silk. Burn test took thirty seconds. Polyester weft. Refund window closed three days back. She paid Rs 2,400 here for a real 60-40 mulberry blend.
This blog is that conversation, written down. Let me walk you through the grades, the prices, the things tailors keep ruining.

The best cotton silk fabric in 2026 depends on use. For everyday kurtis pick a blended cotton silk at Rs 240 to Rs 380 per metre. For festive sarees go for pure tussar cotton silk at Rs 700 to Rs 1,100 per metre. The cotton in the weave keeps it breathable while the silk gives the cloth its sheen and drape.
What cotton silk fabric actually is
Cotton silk is a blended cloth. One yarn handles strength and breathability. The other handles shine. Cotton runs in the warp because it holds loom tension without snapping. Silk runs in the weft because that is what gives the cross-grain shine.
Quality swings on three things. Cotton-to-silk ratio matters most. 70-30 sits at one price band. 60-40 jumps noticeably higher with stronger sheen but faster wrinkle, that is the trade. Silk type next. Mulberry weft gives smooth shine. Tussar gives a textured matte glow. Art silk gives cheap sheen that feels plasticky after one wash. GSM matters last. Summer kurti cotton silk sits at 80 to 110. Saree cotton silk runs 90 to 130.

The four cotton silk fabric grades I stock for summer 2026
Blended cotton silk in 70-30
Workhorse grade. The 30 percent silk weft is usually art silk or polyester-silk hybrid, sold as silk regardless. GSM 80 to 100. Price Rs 240 to Rs 380 per metre. Powers budget summer kurtis, daily-wear sarees, boutique kits hitting sub-Rs 1,800 retail. Pune boutique-walas order this in 200-metre rolls every May.
Mulberry cotton silk in 60-40
Real mulberry silk weft with mercerised cotton warp. GSM 100 to 120. Price Rs 480 to Rs 720 per metre. The mid-range cotton silk for boutique sarees finishing Rs 3,500 to Rs 7,500. Also festive kurti fabric sets. Mulberry weft holds dye saturation properly. Deep wine, peacock teal, oxblood photograph richer here.
Pure tussar cotton silk
Tussar silk weft, handloom cotton warp. GSM 110 to 130. Price Rs 700 to Rs 1,100 per metre. Honey-gold undertone, slight slubs, matte natural finish. What I sell to buyers wanting natural fibre with character. Works for haldi outfit fabric and mehendi function where glossy mulberry feels too dressy.
Chanderi cotton silk handloom
Specific weave from Madhya Pradesh. Mulberry silk warp with mercerised cotton weft. GSM 70 to 90, lightest in the family. Price Rs 550 to Rs 1,400 per metre depending on motif density. What I recommend when the customer wants summer festive cloth that feels weightless. For handloom certification, the bridal trousseau section carries multiple GSM bands.

Tailor asking for more than 7 metres for a saree with blouse? Ask why. Sometimes the answer is motif placement, that is genuine. Sometimes that extra metre goes home for the tailor's cousin's wedding. Both happen here.
How to spot fake pure silk sold as cotton silk
Plenty of polyester art silk gets blended with cotton and sold as pure cotton silk. The Greater Kailash bhabhi from my intro fell for exactly this. Three checks help.
Burn test first. Pull a thread from the selvedge, light it over the kitchen sink. Real silk leaves soft grey ash with burnt-hair smell. Polyester leaves a hard black bead with chemical smell. Cotton leaves soft ash with paper smell. Real cotton silk gives both notes together, burnt hair plus paper. Single note means single fibre, seller is lying.
Crease test next. Pinch a corner tight, twist a few seconds, release. Real silk creases sharply and falls out slow. Polyester snaps back almost instantly. Cotton holds longest. Cotton silk lands halfway between.
Daylight sheen last. Real silk shines from inside the weave, deep and reflective. Synthetic shines from the surface only. Hold the bolt at a tilt under window light. If the shine looks painted on, walk out.
How cotton silk choice changes the finished garment price
Two sarees identical on a hanger can land at completely different prices. Cloth underneath is what changes everything.
Blended 70-30 cotton silk saree with simple zari border lands Rs 1,400 to Rs 2,600 in fabric plus tailoring. Take that same design to pure 60-40 mulberry, suddenly Rs 3,400 to Rs 5,800 because silk weft alone costs three times more per metre. Execute the same saree in pure tussar with handwork border, Rs 6,500 to Rs 14,000. Chanderi cotton silk with butti motifs runs Rs 7,500 to Rs 22,000 with handloom labour pushing the upper end.

Cotton silk care and stitching tips
Cotton silk care is where boutique stitchers lose most money. Few rules to get right.
Dry clean for the first wash. Always. Hand wash in cold water from the second wash onwards. That first cycle has to set the dye through dry cleaning, otherwise colour bleeds onto the silk weft. Pre-shrink before cutting for ready-to-wear.
Fine machine needle in size 70 or 80 only. Heavier needles pull warp threads out and leave visible holes along the seam line.
Iron cotton silk inside out at medium heat with steam. Direct iron on the silk side flattens surface sheen permanently. This is exactly why so many sarees lose shine within three wears. Hang on a padded broad hanger between wears. Our guide on how to style silk fabrics for different occasions covers broader silk care.
FAQ Section
Is cotton silk fabric good for summer?
Yes, one of the most summer-friendly silk-blend fabrics because cotton in the warp keeps the cloth breathable through humidity. Lighter GSM bands of 80 to 100 work best for Delhi and Mumbai. Pure tussar handles humidity slightly better than mulberry.
What is the price of cotton silk fabric per metre in 2026?
Blended 70-30 runs Rs 240 to Rs 380. Pure 60-40 mulberry Rs 480 to Rs 720. Pure tussar Rs 700 to Rs 1,100. Chanderi handloom Rs 550 to Rs 1,400.
How many metres of cotton silk fabric for a saree?
Standard 5.5 metre saree needs 5.5 to 6 metres. Add 1 metre for a matching blouse. Anarkali kurtis need 3 to 3.5 metres. Straight kurtis 2.5 metres.
Is cotton silk pure silk?
No, it is a blended weave. Warp is cotton, weft is silk. Blend ratio decides silk content, 30 percent in budget blends, 40 percent in mid-range. Pure silk fabrics like Banarasi are 100 percent silk.
Can cotton silk be machine washed?
Dry clean for the first wash. From the second wash, hand wash in cold water with mild detergent. Avoid machine wash because the silk weft snags against the drum agitator.
Which cotton silk is best for a festive kurti?
Pure mulberry in 60-40 gives the best balance of shine and comfort for day wear. Chanderi handloom is lightest for evening functions. Budget buyers can pick 70-30 in deep colours which photograph richer than they actually are.
The honest takeaway from the shop counter
Cotton silk is the cloth I send first-time buyers to when they want festive look without festive comfort costs. Pure silk is hot through summer. Pure cotton lacks drape. Cotton silk sits between, earns its place in every Delhi wardrobe April through September.
Pick blended for daily-wear kurtis and budget sarees. Step up to mulberry for boutique festive sets. Tussar or Chanderi handloom when the occasion needs natural-fibre character. Bulk pricing through the bulk order page from June onwards.
